The Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG) is joining with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, Florida State University, and the University of Central Florida to host its first research summit. The purpose of the conference is threefold:

(i) to present original, unpublished research results, and/or best practices in the area of online fraud
(ii) to explore research gaps/opportunities/ challenges and the state-of-the-art with respect to forensic practice (methods, tool and techniques) for investigating scams based on phishing, pharming, crimeware, etc
(iii) to discuss innovative ideas related to ecrime mitigation efforts

By bringing together academics, law enforcement and ITSec practitioners, the summit will facilitate collaborations between PIs and centers of research developing eCrime forensics and/or eCrime countering technologies. The day and a half program will enable:

• Disparate institutions to learn of each others' work firsthand and to interrogate each others' investigators
• Attendees to identify PIs of shared or adjacent interests to organize the most relevant and mutually beneficial collaborations possible
• Investigators to identify opportunities for new, grant-fundable projects developed in these collaborations
• Representatives of grant-funding agencies (who will be invited) to meet directly with PIs formulating exciting new research programs

Revised and/or extended versions of selected papers from the conference will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Digital Forensics Practice published by Francis & Taylor.

This program will help fund graduate students for participating universities to attend the eCrime Researchers Summit. Students are nominated by their professors and the APWG Operating Committee will help coordinate student participation.
